SMPTE 277M-1996 (Archived 2004)

This standard specifies the format and recording method of the data blocks and associated data which form the helical records on 19-mm tape in cassettes as specified in SMPTE 226M. The data recorded may be digital video and audio data of various image standards up to approximately 1 Gbit/s as specified in SMPTE 278M. Also specified are the content, format, and recording method of the longitudinal record containing tracking information for the scanning heads associated with the helical records, and the longitudinal index and cue tracks. In addition, this standard specifies the principal properties of the magnetic tape used for 19-mm type D-6 digital recording.
